Reporter Journalist — and Arts Writer (April 2016)

I have absolutely LOVED my role as an arts writer, covering the happenings in and around the Houston, Texas area. An article featured in The Woodlands Lifestyles & Homes magazine definitely qualifies as one of my favorites. You can read the whole article in issue.com beginning on page 56 and I’ve included screenshots below.

Magazine writing is one of the foundations of book writing — an opportunity to tell a story in an abbreviated manner which can be expanded upon in a book. For instance, I think the artists, artwork, and behind-the-scenes excitement at The Woodlands Waterway Art Festival could fill a book with years of glorious mixed media and the backstories of the creators.

Arts Writer

My article “Arts for All” made the cover of The Woodlands Lifestyles & Homes magazine and was such a fun piece to write, covering “festival fast facts,” “a feast for the eyes,” “music and more,” and “a community that cares.”

And yes, I’ve covered several of these events, filled with eye-popping paintings, sketches, sculptures and more. Often the art is something never before seen, and real treat for collectors. Even better, the public can meet and interact with the artists.

I think young artists — those who are drawn toward sketching, painting, and crafts — can benefit from a walk through the displays and the rows of fascinating pieces including ceramics, glass, photography, and jewelry from fine artists around the nation and the world! Perhaps they’ll grow up to be an arts writer too!

About the Festival

More than 15,000 guests of all ages enjoy this event. Festival-goers include fans of the visual and performing
arts, art collectors, music lovers, families, foodies and out-of-town visitors. The art show is held 100% outdoors. We will be following all CDC protocols at the Art Festival for your health & safety. The Festival features 200 juried international, national and regional artist exhibits along the scenic pathways lining The Woodlands Waterway.

The art represents a diverse mix of painting, drawing, fiber art, sculpture, jewelry, glass, woodworking, photography, mixed media, clayworks and digital art. The spectrum of fine art and fine craft appeals to a wide range of tastes and budgets.
